A gardener is someone who cultivates a garden as a pastime or for a living. This guy would rather eat blueberries than weed. He tends to get distracted with roly polys and caterpillars when planting new shrubs. He'll help move rocks and wood until he finds a salamander. He loves to collect eggs and feed the goats, but passes on helping clean the pens and composting. But the seed is planted. I predict that, because of his love for fresh fruit (and most veggies) and his love for animals, when he is grown up he too will have a garden. It's in his blood.
I'm submitting this portrait to Gardening Gone Wild's photo contest this month. Charles Mann is the judge and has given lots of tips of how to capture a beautiful photo of a person. This definitely was more difficult than a subject that doesn't move, wiggle, or make funny faces. I love this photograph because it captures a second in time that this child was still and thoughtful. In the next frame his tongue is out and his nose is scrunched; his arms are in the air and half of him is blurred. This picture is straight out of the camera with a touch of cropping. I don't have photoshop which would have helped with the shadows and reflections. I also suspect that a flash may have helped as well.
Here's to our future gardeners!
